“If it is to be, it is up to me.” -William H. Johnsen
Congratulations! If you are reading this you have already made a commitment to your success. It is wonderful that you realize this is your responsibility- and that it is in your control. You may not always be able to control everything in your life, but you can control your actions. As long as you don't give up you can acheive your goals!
Your first step is to identify your problem- are you behind in general? Or are you just having trouble with a specific subject or question? Do you just want to get better grades?
The following suggestions are very general and so may be useful for a lot of different problems. We will be starting forums in the future to help you get more specific help.
1. Stay motivated - Remember how important your education is. Do everything you can to get the best education you can. Pay attention in class, ask questions, do your homework- this is “basic training” for life.
2. Time management - One of the most important things you can do is develop good study habits. Make homework and studying your first priority and get it done before you do anything else.
3. Get help! - I know, that’s what you came here for (I’m going to assume you’ve already searched the web, but if not, check our Links), but there’s no way a website can give you the specific, personal help you can get from another person. If you need help with a specific subject, start with the teacher, or even another student. Then try your parents and other relatives. Don’t forget the local or school librarian. If your school has counselors, ask them for help.
If the problem isn’t a specific subject, or you don’t get what you need from your teacher, go to family - parents, brothers or sisters, aunts, uncles, grandparents- you get the idea. Don’t be shy- they’re your family and will usually be glad to help. Even if they can’t help, they may be able to help you find help.
4. Don’t give up! - If your teacher can’t or doesn’t help you, try a counselor, another teacher, or even the principle- these people are paid to help you. The same with family, if you don’t get what you need at first, keep trying! If they can’t help you, ask them who can? If all else fails, contact us. Make sure you include a way for us to get back to you.
What are your specific problems? What would you like to see here that would help you the most? Please let us know so we can improve this site.
